One of my first freelance jobs for Stage One Creative services was writing a custom media server software in vvvv for an large scale installation in the Radisson Blu Zurich airport. Stage one had built some custom Art-net controlled led that would illuminate white acrylic crates of wine staked on 4 sides inside the tower which was manned by 2 aerial performers. Customers to the hotel could order a bottle of wine from the bar around the Winetower which would send a command to the vvvv patch which would trigger an initial low resolution animation on the tower. When the performers were ready one would take the touchscreen controls whilst the other “clipped in” to the wires on the side of the tower that particular bottle of wine that the customer had ordered. The automation software would send a trigger to the media server and light up that exact crate with a surrounding pulse of light, the performer did an aerial act whilst being hoisted up the the flashing crate, retrieve that bottle of wine, come back down and then hand delivered it to the customer. The tower then settled back into a slow idle state animation ready for the next order. This was a hotel spectacular that was installed for several years before being decommissioned after an overhaul of the hotel a short video of the Winetower in action can be found here
